Bobbejaanskloof Private Nature Reserve

Trip Report

by Jarryd Dunn

Making an early start at 8:00 on a bright and clear autumnal morning, we were rewarded with stunning views of the golden grasslands punctuated by Coral Trees, stretching towards the blue Langkloof mountains. A total of 45 enthusiastic birders gathered together, excited to see what birds the reserve had in store for us.

We split into three groups: one wandered around the main lodge, while the other two groups took a circular walk starting in opposite directions. The walk led us through a short section of natural forest, a beautiful garden, and open grass pastures. This provided a wonderful variety of birds, with a total list of 43 species, including specials such as Long-crested Eagle and Denham’s Bustard.

After the walk, we were able to rest and reminisce over a wonderful spread of coffee, tea, and muffins kindly provided by Bobbejaanskloof.

We are incredibly grateful to Bobbejaanskloof Private Nature Reserve for allowing us access to this very special part of Plett.

We hope to see you all again on the next walk.
